How can I set up Dimension Control within the system?
Answer
To set up Dimension Control, you first need to decide what groups you are going to have, for example, you could have things like Fuel, Mobile Devices, etc.
This is just the overall header of where the individual items will show.
To do this navigate to: Accounts > Nominal Ledger > Ledger Parameters > Dimension Control
You will then need to decide on what you want as your Items, these are how you want to split out your Groups, you have the ability here to use the Description and Narrative.
If you wish so, the Description can be for a Serial Number and the Narrative can be who it is assigned to. So for example if you were to take Mobile Devices, you may have the following items;
Description: iPhone 123456789
Narrative: John Smith
You can set as many items up as you wish to differentiate costs between items.
Items are set up in the same place but simply clicking Add on the right-hand side under the Items box, you can also import/export these. This is explained in the How To Import Dimension Control Items.
Once all of the Items have been set up you will need to set up some rules. This can only be done using an import which is explained in the article How to Import Dimension Control Rules.
Once these have been set up you will then be prompted each time you use one of these nominal codes to select an item.
