Question

How do I use Pinewood DMS in Microsoft Edge?

Answer

The following steps should be completed in Microsoft Edge to run Pinewood DMS correctly.

1. Set Default Browser

If Internet Explorer was previously your default browser, you may want to set Edge as the new default.

Open up a Microsoft Edge window.

In the search bar, enter: edge://settings/defaultBrowser

Click 'Make Default' on the 'Make Microsoft Edge your default browser' setting:

2. Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode

Still in the same page in Microsoft Edge (edge://settings/defaultBrowser)

Set 'Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode' to 'Allow':

Now add your Pinewood DMS URL to the 'Internet Explorer mode pages' by clicking Add:

And then enter the URL, including the https://

Click Add once more and the URL will be added to the pages list.

Adding the URL to this setting will need to be repeated every 90 days. The settings will state when the URL expires in the list:

This step will need to be completed for all Pinewood DMS URLs you may have access to.

3. Enable Internet Explorer Mode Button

In the search bar, enter: edge://settings/appearance

In here, scroll to the section ‘Select which buttons to show on the toolbar:’

Toggle the Internet Explorer mode button to on:

This setting may be managed by your organisation, if this is the case, it will be indicated by a mceclip1.png symbol. Please contact your IT Support if this setting is not enabled.

This will enable a button in the toolbar in the top right corner and will allow a New Session of the DMS to open where it hasn’t loaded correctly.

4. Allow Popups

In the Microsoft Edge search bar, enter: edge://settings/content/popups.

Under the Allow section, click the Add button, and enter your Pinewood DMS URL. Note this page includes the port, e.g. https://uk.pinewooddms.training:443mceclip1.png

If you miss this step out, when you first load your page, a pop-up blocker will prevent the DMS from launching in a popup :

Select the Pop-up blocked message and change the option to 'Always allow pop-ups and redirects from...':

Select 'Done' and then reload the page, your DMS will then open on the login screen.

5. Add to trusted sites

Now open up a Control Panel window (this can be searched for in Cortana):

Amend the 'View By' option to 'Small Icons':

Select 'Internet Options' from the list:

Select the Security tab:

Click Trusted Sites, then click the 'Sites' button. Add your Pinewood DMS URL to the Trusted Sites list, by entering the URL (including https://) at the beginning in the 'Add this website to the Zone' box and then click Add:

(The above may be restricted by your Organisation, which will mean you are unable to amend the box - please contact your IT Support if this is the case)

Now you are able to open your Pinewood DMS URL in Edge.

Multiple Sessions

PLEASE NOTE: the 'New Session' functionality has been changed in Edge, and we currently support only TWO sessions of the DMS in this browser. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

After login, the New Session button will appear on the side menu like normal. If you click New Session, a second instance of the DMS will be launched in a new Edge window, and the New Session button will disappear.
